Chub Republic Brisbane
IT’S TOMORROW!!!!!
Guess what Chub Republicans of Brisbane and surrounds? There’s going to be another fab fatty event in Brisbane!
The lovely Olivia from Wait Until the Sunset is organising a plus-size fashion fair for the 15th of December. For more information visit the facebook page. And there are a couple of .pdf files (downloadable here and here) for you to share around, either electronically or print and post.
Either hold a stall and sell those fatshion items taking up space in your wardrobe, or just come along and pick up some bargains. There will be drinks, nibblies and prizes.I’ll be there! (Kath aka Fat Heffalump)
Please share - the more we spread the word, the bigger and better the event.

OH GROAN!!
Hi, I’m Nick. You may know me as @Nicholosophy on Twitter, from my tumblr also called Nicholosophy or even my blog over at www.nicholosophy.com. I’ve come from a far away land called Brisbane to tell you about something I’m working on. Project BrisFats.
What the heck is Project BrisFats? Well first, let me give you some background on me.
I’m a 30-something fat man. I’ve been fat all of my life and I’ve dealt with the stigma, the public humiliation, and the hurt that is dished out at fat people.
Where can I go to be in the company of fat people (and their allies) and feel safe? Where can I access resources on fat studies, fat activism, and fat stigma in society? Where can I go if I want someone to have a chat to, and feel that they understand the issues I face as a fat person? At the moment, no where.
So let’s change that.
Project BrisFats is the working title for this idea that I’ve been mulling over for a while. Think of it like any other group, but instead of being about knitting or sport or gardening, it’s about fat. Each member is connected through their lived experience of being fat, or their understanding and appreciation of the difficulties faced by fat people. A group of people who you have an affinity with, where there is a safe space to get together and share information and resources.
Wouldn’t it be great to have a library of fat zines, study materials and other information available to read whenever you want to? A collection of materials from all over the world, from activists, academics and everyone in between. A place where you can come and tell your story, and be heard and understood. It’s a place I’d love to have access to, and I hope there are others who feel the same way.
So what’s the first step? Finding other people who feel the same way and getting together and talking about it. Talk about the things that people would want from a group. Talk about how the idea can be grown from just a seed. Start small and grow.
Do you think this is interesting? Do you want to be told when the first meeting gets organised? Then drop your information into this spiffy Google Form and I’ll be in touch. Soon.
Spoils of clothing swap, one. The ugliest effing sweater.
I’m so glad you nabbed that sweater. Because if you didn’t, I would have had to. And I really don’t need the world’s ugliest effing sweater.
I am so excited about today. I hope to get some pics to share with y’all later.
Chub Republican Kath

- Asos Curve
- Torrid
- Lane Bryant
- Evans Clothing

- Yours Clothing
Not to mention some fab indie/one off stuff I’ve picked up on eBay.

The more fab fatties who come along and the more clothes you bring to swap, the more you have access to. Spread the word!

Chub Republican Kath!
We are so excited to be hosting the inaugural Chub Republic Brisbane Clothing Swap! This is a fantastic opportunity to get rid of all those clothes that hang in the back of your wardrobe that are too small, too big, or just not your style anymore, and replace them for a fraction of the cost of buying new stuff.
The space is explicitly body-positive - we want everybody to feel comfortable, which means that we ask you not talk negatively about your body or anybody else’s.
Guidelines:
Bring clothes that still have plenty of wear left in them! Think new with or without tags, or gently worn.
Sizes 14 + and up!
How it works:
When you arrive, drop a gold coin in the donation jar, and advise the person at the desk how many items you have. They will give you an equal number of tokens for you to ‘spend’. Hand your clothes over, and we will ensure that each garment goes to the correct size location. It would be super helpful if you could let us know when you arrive roughly what size range your garments are.
Browse, assess, try things on, and above all, enjoy yourself! Once you’re done, head over to the exit and exchange your tokens to ‘pay’ for your new clothes.
